Bequest From The Heart

Bequest From The Heart

In 2002, Jeff '95 and Leslie '94 Gonya took a leap, following their dream to open a bed and breakfast, the Inn Port, in Dayton's Oregon District. Fifteen years later, the business is thriving, giving them the life they envisioned together since meeting at the University of Dayton.

The couple crossed paths at a wedding at the University's chapel, whose doors Jeff knelt in front when he proposed to Leslie years later. Eventually, they took their vows at the chapel, as well. Their appreciation of the University, and its role in their life together, has led them to give back over the years with donations of money and time. Recently, they even established a generous bequest for the University.

"We're really glad that we set up the bequest," Leslie noted. "It gives you an opportunity to think about what you value and who you value. And it's never too early to take stock of that and approach what will be the end of your life with the same sense of gratitude you approach daily life."

The University of Dayton has gratitude, as well, for alums like the Gonyas, who will help future generations of Flyers realize their own dreams.
