Nine Girls. One House. Countless Lives Impacted.

Pat Kuss and roomates “Nine girls and one bathroom,” Pat Kuss ’66 laughed about their house in the UD student neighborhood.

“It sounds like a nightmare, but we really worked as a team and lived together harmoniously.” She explained how the housemates have gone from splitting up their house duties each week to working together to fund a scholarship at UD.

Kuss and her roommates set up the 321 Scholarship to pass on the best of their college experience to others. The roommates named the scholarship “321” after the Alberta Street address where they lived.

The 321 Scholarship assists full-time juniors, who commit to the principles of justice and compassion through service to the community. Several roommates chose a charitable gift annuity (CGA) to make their gift because they wanted to make a significant impact while also having the security of a reliable income in retirement.

CGAs can help accomplish both goals. As Kuss explained, “We believe that, at UD, we rise up and succeed together, and we want to continue to provide the type of community and hands-on experiences my roommates and I had for future students.”

“Knowing that a donor sees my potential allows me to appreciate my strengths, feel supported and fly even higher,” said Emily Puebla, the most recent recipient of the 321 Scholarship. “I am not sure where I would be if it were not for them uplifting my success@-]it has made a positive impact on me and my family.”
